BLACK MAN

I have no doubts about my gender,
so I hope you understand
what is meant by the question:
How will I know when I'm a man?

I believe I'll be a man
when I become an asset to society.
A man is judged by his character,
not simply by his anatomy.

To those boys who believe
that a man must bring home the bacon:
I'm sorry dear children.
You are sadly mistaken.

A man accepts responsibility,
and shares it with his partner.
He is a loving husband.
He is a caring father.

Every male does not become a man,
but in every male there is potential.
I strive for manhood because
for the survival of my race
both genders are essential.
